Fast and reliable but...
Fast printer with great print quality. The only drawback is envelopes. Forget this printer if you want to do a lot of envelopes. But for printing in straight black and white at a cheap cost per page, this is the one to get.

Great printer
I've had this printer for maybe 5 years now, great little printer. I've recently started to print index cards through its manual feed. Works great!

Respectable SOHO workhorse!
I have owned this printer since 2004 and have had nothing but good experiences with it until recently. I'm just now shopping for its replacement--not because it has died, but because its OS X support seems to have met its end with the release of Snow Leopard.
Samsung has always had marginal support for Apple computers (indeed, even getting the 10.4/10.5 driver involves Google, since the Samsung USA website pretends that there is no Mac support at all), but while it continues to print fine using CUPS on 10.6, it no longer works reliably as a shared printer on the network (only reporting that it cannot get printer status as it's "forbidden!"). Resetting the printing system on the host computer allows it to print one or two documents, but that's it. Constantly resetting the printing system is not a viable option, so sadly, the little Samsung that could is now being given away to a lucky friend.
Refill cartridges are easy to find online for ~, or about a penny and a half per page of text printed.
It's small, light, and easy to operate. It's a bit on the loud side compared to some newer entry-level lasers, but one has to remember that this is the laser printer that busted the 0 floor on monochrome lasers. Now there are COLOR lasers for under that price (though the toner prices on those are just about the same as new printers).
The Samsung SPL drivers for Mac OS X do work, and include configurable options like toner save and manual feed paper sourcing, but that's about it. It's advertised at 17ppm, which is a little optimistic--actual print speeds are closer to 15ppm. If you're only printing locally, or are using a Mac with an older OS, you'll be fine with this printer, contrary to the many reviews online that claim there is no OS X support at all.

Over 3 yrs. and 2 cartridges with no problems.
Sorry to hear about so many other problems. My experience is quite different. Yes, it's loud, slow warming up, etc., but it's a home cheapie. If you want more, spend more.
