Almost perfect
I bought this laptop for my wife. Before buying it, we considered several netbooks and a Macbook. We decided the Mac was too expensive for what we needed (mostly browsing, simple games, and iTunes). The netbook screens were a little too small and low resolution for decent browsing. We decided to look at something with a 11"+ screen. We considered the Asus UL30-A2 but decided against the extra size and weight. The choice then narrowed down to the 1810 and the Asus UL20-A. Reading the reviews, it seemed we would get better battery life with the 1810, and the possibility of built-in Bluetooth (I don't like bothering with a dongle). We decided on the 1810TZ because the marginally better processor on the 1810T didn't seem to justify the price differential.

Overall, we are very happy with this purchase after nearly two months of use. It looks great and the battery life is fantastic. One of our friends saw this laptop, and immediately decided he had to have one too.

Pros:
- As portable as a netbook but with a much better screen - perfect balance of size, weight, and usability
- Excellent battery life. With light use (internet browsing/limited video) we have gotten slightly over nine hours and fifteen minutes on one charge (it is set to shut down when the computer reaches 7% of battery capacity, so it could last a bit longer with a more aggressive setting). Freedom from a power cord makes this laptop super-portable.
- Good wireless connectivity
- Very responsive (we don't put heavy demands on it, but it boots up a lot quicker than any older computer in the house)
- Nice keyboard layout - generously spaced keys
- Red case is very attractive when clean
- Windows 7 is a pleasant surprise - it runs well on this PC
- Trackpad has two independent buttons
- 4gb memory at a good price point compared to similar computers

Neither Pro nor Con
- Trackpad: after tweaking the controls, it works well, but I prefer not to use it. It makes my fingers uncomfortable. I use a bluetooth mouse instead Verbatim 96991 Easy Riser Bluetooth Notebook Laser Mouse- Silver and Black. My wife does not mind the trackpad.

Cons
- Fingerprint magnet. I would prefer that the brushed aluminum surrounding the keyboard were extended to the outside of the case.
- Keyboard is a little mushy and could use a little better tactile feedback. Despite this nitpicking, it is very usable and I can still type quickly on it.
- The laptop frequently hangs when it resumes from suspension (after closing and opening the cover). This could be due to software I added to better control the power consumption, but I'm not sure.
- Although this is supposed to be my wife's computer, I like it so much she has trouble getting it out of my hands.

I ordered a Bluetooth module on Ebay. It works great and was not too hard to install. Just be careful when lifting the keyboard out of the case. I have not noticed a degradation in battery life. You can find info on this, and a bunch of other useful stuff on the "Acer 1810 Timeline Tweaks" thread on [...] here: [...].

I ordered this laptop on a Tuesday night from J&R Music World and received it that Thursday in excellent condition. The packaging was meticulous.

Big bang for $
I am very impressed - Nice looking and performs well. I wanted a new computer to begin law school but didn't have a lot of money to spend. After looking quite a bit we settled on this one. I really love it. It works wonderfully, is amazingly small and is very easy to use.

The only negatives about it is that it doesn't come with several things I am used to getting when I buy a computer (but usually I buy a Dell from the factory for quite a bit more and customize it).

It doesn't come with Microsoft Office, security software, or a cd drive. It also doesn't have the free preloaded games that I am used to. It has a lot of game trials that you can play but I haven't had a lot of time to figure it out.

I figure I will have to buy an external cd drive and pay for the software upgrades that I want but overall this was a great buy.
